XLR8R is one of the coolest music and culture magazines around. Each issue is a treasure to flip through, so we were very excited when we found out they did a little writeup on the AudioCubes. Grab a copy in PDF format from their website. The column about the AudioCubes is on page 51.

We were nominated a while ago for one of the awards at the Qwartz festival back in April, in the Max Mathews category. You can read the original blog post here.

Musiques & Cultures Digitales is a magazine from France which has a special on the festival. They did an interview with us about the AudioCubes, which you can read using the above links. We are grateful for the attention we got at the festival and would like to thank the people who organized the festival and were so kind to us. In particular, Alexandre and Clemence from Qwartz.

We were very honoured to have received the award from Taylor Dupree (K12 records). More information about the nomination at http://www.qwartz.org/index.php?/Qwartz-News/Qwartz-Press-Qwartz-Max-Mathews-Qwartz-Web/menu-id-91.html

After the ceremony we had the chance to meet Wolfgang Voigt from KOMPAKT and his charming wife, who expressed quite a bit of interest in the cubes.

Interview with Pearls For Swines

By Bert from Percussa

It doesn’t happen every day that we get in touch with an AudioCubes user from Belgium. After all, Belgium is mostly famous for chocolate and beer! Meeting Stef and Macha from Pearls for Swines was great though. We spent the day talking about music, their professional work, challenges in the arts in general, technology, and their use of AudioCubes, which turns out to be a cornerstone of their technology setup.

Belgian magazine CHIEF wrote a column on the AudioCubes recently. AudioCubes were developed as an electronic musical instrument and to work with music or audio software, but of course they could be used to control other types of software, such as games, through the software development kits which are freely available under the support and downloads sections. To build an application in a very short time, we suggest Max/MSP by Cycling 74. If you’re more of a hardcore programmer you can get our C++ development kit. Nicolas from Devine Machine, makers of audio software, visited us during the Musikmesse 2009 to show his work on Blocks, a beat slicing engine he has been developing. He demo’ed the software using AudioCubes. Although we don’t have actual video from the tradeshow about this demo, you can watch a short demo which he recorded in the video above.
More info about his work at http://devine-machine.com/

Nicolas Lacoumette was born in 1973 and has been a composer and producer since 1992. He came to code later, after his first award winning freeware ‘X-Incarn’. Following on that success, he then founded Devine Machine: “The frontier between music using modular programming and C++ coding is thin, I’ve always traveled from one border to the other, it keeps the passion alive for both sides. My role at Devine Machine is to provide rock-solid and useful applications. I start concepts in my own real-life musical situations first, then, once we establish the concept’s validity, we go from concept to product utilizing input from many other musicians.” One of Nicolas’ next creations is a multi-user looping software app currently being used, tested and played live with his musical partner Arash Khalatbari (www.myspace.com/arashkhalatbari) and in his solo project Harp Mechanic (www.myspace.com/harpmechanic).
