MIDIBridge is the main application for AudioCubes to generate MIDI notes and control changes, which can be sent to any software or hardware supporting MIDI including external synths, effect boxes, etc.
MIDI can also be sent back to MIDIBridge from external gear to control the colours of AudioCubes in sync with the music or audio, using MIDI control changes.
If you have a drum machine like the Elektron Machinedrum you can also sync MIDIBridge to the clock of the drum machine and makes the cubes flash at tempo intervals.
In sensor mode, when AudioCubes send distance info from their faces as MIDI control changes, colors can be linked to the distance info.
For more information about MIDIBridge check out the applications page or the live performance page. For details about the software check out the manuals.
Mark Mosher found a very important bug to be fixed in MIDIBridge where the preset file loaded would not properly update the AudioCubes state. This has now been fixed. A big thank you to Mark! Check out his blog and work at modulatethis.com and his recent 9BOX template system for AudioCubes and Ableton Live at http://9box.modulatethis.com/
Besides this bug there are countless other improvements, one of the most visible is the SOLO checkbox which can be used to send the distance info as a MIDI control change only for the selected cube face. This is handy if you want to quickly MIDI-map a cube face to an effect parameter in Ableton Live for example.
To get the update, head over to the downloads section. At the moment it’s windows-only, we expect the Mac update to be out later this month in April.
The update is now available for both Mac and PC!
