Picture 7What is PluginWrapper

PluginWrapper is a VST/AudioUnit effect/instrument plugin developed specifically for the Percussa AudioCubes hardware. It lets you use the AudioCubes with your existing DAW software and plugins, such as Ableton Live, FL Studio, Cubase, Logic, EnergyXT2, … and many others, without having to deal with MIDI mapping. The PluginWrapper is a plugin capable of hosting other instrument or effect plugins.

What can I do with PluginWrapper

The wrapper can be used in a variety of scenarios, such as music making, sound design and even live performance … basically any situation in which you want to use AudioCubes with a VST or AudioUnit plugin, but you don’t want to do the work of MIDI-mapping everything. We’ve designed the plugin with music makers in mind. You can read more about using PluginWrapper with AudioCubes for music making here.

How does PluginWrapper work

Up to four cubes can be connected using USB cables to a computer running PluginWrapper plugin software. Every PluginWrapper instance talks directly to one AudioCube only. The plugin has a menu for choosing which AudioCube it talks to. No drivers needed, the software talks directly to the hardware and looks and works the same on Mac and PC.

The PluginWrapper is capable of hosting a VST or AudioUnit plugin, because it’s a host in itself. So your DAW software hosts PluginWrapper, and the PluginWrapper hosts your favourite plugins and instruments (for example, TAL Bassline, a free VST instrument synth). The PluginWrapper plugin will receive MIDI from your DAW software just like any other VST instrument and will forward the MIDI to the hosted VST instrument.

cube_sensor

The plugin lets you quickly map AudioCube sensors to your VST or AudioUnit effect or instrument parameters. There is no MIDI mapping needed.

You just select which face of the cube has to talk to which parameter, and you can fine-tune the cube’s face sensor and even limit, scale and invert the data before it reaches the parameter of the plugin. The tiniest gestures of your hands and fingers are instantly audible.

Ofcourse, all of your settings made in the PluginWrapper will be stored with your song when you close your DAW software and project file, as is the case with all normal VST or AudioUnit plugins.

For visual feedback, you can control the cubes’ colours using MIDI controllers. Intensity can be controlled for the red, green and blue channels. You can also map notes from your MIDI score to cube colours. The PluginWrapper lets you set these colours in advance.

If you don’t have any VST instruments yet you can find some free ones at http://www.kvraudio.com/. There are quite a few excellent VST instruments available for free.
