It's Bert here, designer of the audiocubes and lead programmer on the SYNTHOR digital modular synth we're building for the audiocubes.
I've been working hard on the next build of our synthesizer and it's coming together nicely. I've added a bit crusher / chorus / delay and reverb to the FX section and I've also added a sampler module which allows you to load a bank of samples and manipulate them in all kinds of cool ways using other modules in the synthesizer.
I've also done a ton of improvements and bugfixes on the step sequencer built into SYNTHOR and I've added a comb filter.
Finally I've been testing the loading and saving of settings files such that it's a matter of starting SYNTHOR and switching on all the cubes, and sound comes out. No more MIDI mapping or fiddling around with other software or hardware to make cool sound using the AudioCubes. It's now "instant on" :-)
I'm getting ready for a short trip to Berlin this week and while preparing a demo I shot some video, check it out below. Great sci-fi sounds! In the video the green cubes are oscillators, the yellow cube is an output cube, the cyan cube is a noise generator and the red cube is a DC generator which is useful for modulating stuff using distance between the cubes.
As the cubes are placed next to each other, signal connections are made like in a normal modular synthesizer, but as you move cubes closer to each other, the modulation depth of the signal changes, which gives you incredible expressiveness in the sound and which is impossible to do with any other modular synthesizer.
