Sound synthesis conversation between 2 wireless AudioCubes

2016-01-24

You probably all remember the toggle noise demo video from a while back in which we introduced the SOLO mode for the noise synth module in SYNTHOR. We received a lot of positive feedback on this feature as well as requests to have this SOLO mode implemented for every synth module in SYNTHOR.

That's why I now added the SOLO mode for all synth modules (oscillator, comb filter, noise generator, etc) in SYNTHOR. In this SOLO mode, every cube senses distance to your hands, allowing you to control 4 synth parameters independently, all wireless, letting each AudioCube work as an advanced four-dimensional wireless theremin.

Check out the video below to learn more:

In the video , you can see our laptop running SYNTHOR. The pink cube which is plugged in via USB is the base station cube which manages the wireless network and sends/receives data to/from the computer (you can use up to 16 cubes wirelessly). The green and red cube Celine and I are holding in our hands are fully wireless and are communicating with the pink base station cube. In SYNTHOR we assigned a sine oscillator to the green cube, and a square oscillator to the red cube. For each cube, two of the 4 faces are linked to pitch and amplitude.

What’s cool about this demo is that you can see how gestural you can get with this simple setup and the variety of results you can get. You can also see the green bar graphs on the laptop in the back which show the distance sensing in real time for the 4 sensors of the AudioCube. All you need to replicate this setup is a Mac or PC laptop, three Wireless AudioCubes PRO and our free MIDIBridge software (includes Synthor). You don’t need any other software or hardware.

SYNTHOR Beta

The SYNTHOR beta is available for free download on the Percussa website, and works with the recently released Percussa Wireless AudioCubes PRO as well with the older Percussa Wireless AudioCubes. Percussa is incrementally releasing versions of SYNTHOR with new features, with a first full release planned for the end of the first quarter.
